The past week I focused on experimenting with different ways to take in, and respond to the Kronos Quartet's composition. I also chased down and obsessed over finding different ways to draw a spiral using the ruler and compass. Today I had a surprise! I found a new way to create a spiral that directly correlates to strings found on a musical instrument. I read about how there is geometry in music and delighted to learn about the Pythagorean Spiral, a series of right triangles specifically configured so that the hypotenuse of the first right triangle becomes a leg of the next right triangle. Maybe unconsciously I tapped into the structure of the musical composition and began trying to draw a spiral? When things like this happen it affirms to really trust in the creative process, especially when I find myself driven to do things that consciously do not make sense. No more doubting!
