This morning I began several lists.

  1. Visual symbols I have been using in my work the past several years and their meanings

  2. Concepts in the work that as of yet do not have symbols

  3. Notions I am working with that have not explicitly shown up as a symbol but might be found in the materials I am using such as paper paint water and pigment

It was a really good exercise.  I could see a cohesive something in it all.  The most interesting part for me was the last list, the things that I am working with but have not explicitly or consciously addressed.

Shame

Self loathing

Imperfection

Selfishness

Control

Hate

Hunger

Fear

Containment

Isolation

Paranoia

Illusion

I appreciated naming these things and seeing them as part of the whole picture I am working to create. Identifing them in this way gives some space to be more intentional with their presence in my work.

The spiral is starting to come together.  It occurred to me today that the spiral, a symbol of life’s journey, can be found in the developing embryo.  I will explore this tomorrow.

I made some progress on the sound/music animation today as well.  I am feeing good about how I spent my time today.
