Today was the first class meeting. I entered a group of creative, mature artists who have a long history together. I felt some insecurity marble with hopeful blind confidence. My work is very different from theirs but what we might share is our interest in ideas and concepts, reading and researching and letting what we take in move us and appear in the work.
I liked the work they presented. Both are photographers and I appreciated the thoughts driving the images.
I explained my work and the way somatic psychotherapy and the longing for spiritual awakening feeds the inquiry. After talking and showing images they responded in a way to let me know they could follow along . I felt reinvigorated by my previous work with the heart drawings, embodied conversations, mica and ideas of the blastocyst implanting on the uterine wall. I could see how the teacher would be a great support and resource if I ever wanted put together a submission for an installation at a gallery. He commented on the volume of work and could also see it could benefit from editing. Not in a “editing out’ sense, but more of a way to organize the very potent pieces so to not overwhelm the viewer.
In a nutshell I am glad to be part of this new group.
I played around with this drawing today and put a red square on it.
