Nick and I went to a William Kentridge performance in Berkley tonight. Such a privilege! It was incredible! The music, set, stop motion and storyline were so moving and inspiring. This is the stage at the start of the show. We are driving home now but I wanted to make sure I had someing posted for you today. One line in the work stood out to me. "Good will out in the end." When I hear it in my brain it orients my attention, perception and actions to a more receptive curious state. I understand it as revealing or expose something, often something unpleasant, negative or hidden and is similar to "truth will out". The performance addresses the violent history of colonization. It explores power and forced migration, both historical and contemporary. In doing so, "Good will out in the end." But I need to think further to better understand what I saw this evening and what invitations and questions it presented.
I did work on the front view of the scapula today but did not have a chance to photograph it. Here is the one from yesterday with bits of hand dyed red paper. The red really makes the immage more interesting.
