Hands and Paintings

This week I felt overwhelmed and in over my head on the project. I headed to the green screen studio and shot for three days but unfortunately don't feel satisfied with anything produced. The puppets look so stiff and cheesy when moving. One way to embrace their limitations (and my own) is to paint the backgrounds. I played around with this idea this week as well. One benefit of painted backgrounds is they make integrating the heart animated sequences more easy. I am wondering if there might be a way to have the background be still, then animate it changing (using paint) and then have it take over the puppet, sort of engulf the puppet in paint? I am still learning a lot but not making traction on the original story. I started to open the chest as planned and realized the sequence will read better if the hands are a bit more formed. When both hands are so messy it is difficult to understand what is happening. Anyway, success came when I shot a sequence of the hands taking shape. My plan at this point is to keep shooting for two more weeks and then begin editing a story. What story? At this point I do not know. Here is a video of this weeks experiments.
