Charcoal Stop Motion

Okay... Well I did a sequence of the man walking to the table and sitting down. These are some images I captured on the phone. I have no idea what the Bolex is capturing. In a way I sort of like this, but I have not fully commited to the process because I am using my phone. When I think about how people made stop motion and movies in the past they were really suspended in a mystery. They were blind until the big reveal when the film was developed. This reminds me of Jenni's recent blind countour drawings. She is able to capture something really compelling and beautiful that is obsured when the mind is taking charge. I wonder if this is also the case with film. My next roll of fill I will dive in and not use my phone or any other digital aids to see what is able to surface when not curated by the mind.
