Today our Experimental Documentry class met and students shared their previous work. I felt very inspired by the films and the thoughts that shaped their making. I ended up presenting the thesis video and the group seemed genuinly interested which felt really good. Three or four other students are incorporating animation into their work and that was fun to see. Aparently I am doing it the old school way with the camera on the copystand. They are doing it with a 2D program on the computer. They commented that there is something that feels handmade when done with the camera and they liked the effect. I cant really see a difference but I do like making it with my hands and papers ect. Less time on the computer is always good too, in my opinion.
The afternoon was spent editing Tenderfoot II. I played around with sound and pulled together all of the black and white Big Basin shots. Those images really could be their own movie. I will meet with the teacher on Tuesday and ask his opinion about wether or not it is working to weave the creek together with the fire damage. Do they diminish each other or help each other? Right now, it is not working but I might be able to make it tighter. There is so much one has to let go of with editing!
The image above is a nice little geometrical drawing. It feels old, like some ancient wisdom is coming through.
The image below is section from the doodles made during class today. The class is three hours long with only one- five minute break. So much sitting!!!!! And focus.
