Blue

The last few day the alchemy deck I have been exploring suggested spending some time on the mystery of blue. Hmm. I realized I am not so drawn to blue when making my pictures so I set out the challenge to only use blue paint today. There was some resistance when I arrived at the paper. Blue paint is so fixed and strong. I guess you could say the same for red, but somehow blue can feel cliché. Its brings to mind water, sky, space and I am wondering how to use blue and move it beyond the idea of blue. I used the same paper preparation technique with the old book pages. They are very yellow-orange-ish. Some of the blue clashed with the yellow and turned sort of a putrid green. I applied many layers and then added a splash of white. In the end I was able to create six surfaces that feel inviting enough for a future drawing. I think next time I give this a try I will use the smallest ammount of other colors to make the blue more depthul and interesting.
