Today marks the compleation of the goal to do 100 days of documenting my art process through images and words. Nick and Jenni suggested looking over what has been made and pulling out a few that feel important in some way. I think this is a great suggestion and will likely do it over the next few weeks.

Thanks for being with me through the journey. As I said before, knowing you have been there receiving my creative process helped me show up.

I have some ideas of what is next for me. My goal is to try to do "Art" at least five hours a day. Now, you might think that is crazy! How can you stick to this goal? And it is simply a change of perspective. "Art" in this instance is anthying that supports creating. So, going to art group meetings, galeries, the library to research, meditating, exersizing, taking photos, going to classes creating stories, writing, shooting films...drawing..Really anything that is done while present in my body and feeding the creative process is "Art" in this instance. Documenting it through a blog will not be necessary, but a daily writing practice will help things along. I am going to try it for two weeks. Today for example I just hit the five hour mark. I went to a 2 hour art group meeting, did test shots with the Bolex at Big Basin for 1.5 hours and tonight painted, wrote and did some drawing for 1.5. Its doable. One thing I like about this goal is it makes me more mindful about what I am giving my attention to. This is so important in the creative process. Attention informs what is being made.

I thought I would list a few things I learned over the past 100 days.

  1. No matter how busy the day, distracted or tired I can pop into the studio and make someting, even if it is only for five minutes. What is created in five minutes can often be a breakthrough immage.

  2. The idea of needing a chunk of time to make art is, for me, a resistance to doing the work.

  3. Thoughts about the work being crap and meaningless is my mind trying to keep me safe. These are concepts that have nothing to do with creating. I will cycle through this type of thinking. It is part of the process but should not be indulged while in the creative act. It is a distraction and again a for me form of resistance to doing the work.

  4. The benifit of doing the daily practice is that it keeps me from being on the computer wasting my time.

  5. There are themes in the work and if I make something everyday I can see them more clearly.

  6. The I phone has a way of finishing the art. A downside of this process is the way I started making things so that they photographed well. Over time stuff started to look better in the photo and then it did in real life.
