16 Seconds!

Today I shot 16 seconds of stop motion with the Bolex.  While doing so, I had the Canon hooked up to Dragonframe so I could see how things looked.  I took several hours to remember how to hook up wires to the computer and camera and take proper light readings, but it was a successful good day.  Andrea and I texted a bit this morning and she really encourage me to go slow, take baby steps and not feel pressure to get it done.  Let it unfold and take detours, was the general sentiment.  I appreciated the reminder.

I did run into a technical problem I will have to address very soon and it has to do with keying out the background color so I can superimpose the artist puppets into a unified background. Today I shot Andrea’s piece on a bright pink background.  When I keyed out the pink, it made her puppet green.  You can see what I mean in the photos below.  This means I will need to shoot everyone’s puppet on white paper and figure out how to mask out the white.  Keying does not work with white.  I have watched several videos on the subject and the steps do  not produce a clean look on my end.

Another possibility is to make everyones puppet on the gray scale.  See photo at the top.
