I really enjoy the company of the women artists in Andrea's workshop. All of them are so authentic, curious and have such wisdom. I feel comfortable there and greatful to have three full days to make things. I worked on a few abstraction paintings and then slipped back to my falmiar narritive/figure work.
I painted the dream from a few nights ago, the one about the psychotic baby with monster teeth. I was trying to feed the baby but it was having a dificult time latching on so I pulled my nipple into the shape of a hotdog to make it easer. I was afraid of the baby because it was evil at its core and for a moment I considered killing it, shooting it with a gun, but I coulden't bring myself to do it so I left it outside, hoping the elements would do the terrible job. After while I became very worried the psychotic baby was hungy so I went looking for it to try feeding it again. Its a wierd painting, difficult to make out what is what, but you do see a long hotdog shaped nipple in there.
After the workshop I zipped up to Big Basin for a short hike to check out the area for the movie. The trees have a lot of new growth. It was good to see. I photographed the charred areas, burnt stumps, etcetera but in a way it didn't feel right to try to document the area as a fresh burn. The beauty up there is with the sprouting growth. That is what I would want to photograph/film if I made a movie using the footage up there. I think my next step is to look on a fire map of California for 2024 and go on a little roadtrip to see if I can get the right landscape for the film.
I forgot to photograph the paintings I worked on today so I am sharing immages from my walk in Big Basin late this afternoon. See the new growth? Looks like hope.
