Why?

This morning our art group met and we spent most of the meeting laughing at ourselves and the work.  It so incredible to share time with women with so much life experience.  We talked  about the current state of the world and wondered why none of us are making work that directly responds to it.  How strange?  It seems each of us is trying to find some sliver of peace, truth ,beauty, clarity or something like that, rather than directly making a statement about the war for example.

First Friday art shows were happening tonight in downtown Santa Cruz.  Gretchen from the art group had three paintings in a large group shoe that occupied the old Palace Arts building on Pacifica.  It was packed with artwork and people.  Her paintings looks strong and complete.  I feel happy for her. The show as a whole was alot to take in. I think it would be better to go on a day when there are not so many people. Its seems like a lot of effort was made in curating the show. I wish I could have spoken to whoever it was that put it together.

I did not have much time to do my own work today.  This is a start of a new drawing.
